I am looking for information on the McDonald family of Monroeville, Alabama. My fourth great grandfather was Charles J. McDonald. He married Martha Ann Thames, daughter of Rev. Cornelius Thames on October 6, 1853. They had two sons: my third great grandfather, Randall Cornelius (b. 1854 in AL; m. Thursey Alciadora Steward in TX; d. 1919 in Carbon, TX)and Charles J. (b. 1856; m. Annie Strock; d. 1908.) Unfortunately, their marriage was cut short. Charles died October 26, 1855, possibly in Burnt Corn, AL, before the birth of his second son. Martha later remarried James Newberry. Charles and Martha are buried together in the cemetary of the Old Salem Baptist Church, the church that Martha's father pastored. Their son Charles is also buried there in a McDonald family plot along with his wife, their infant child and possibly their sons: Morton M. (1906-1979), Neil H. (1913-?), Leon (1904-1993), Guy (1897-1976; WW I vet)and Charles Francis (1890-1919; HDG Dech 1st F.A. Brigade 1st Dif. A.E.F.)I have also come across another Charles J. McDonald from Monroeville who died in Austria during WW II. The only other information that I have on this family is a sort of legend that was passed down to my great aunts and uncles by Randall Cornelius. It is said that Charles came to the U.S. from Ireland as a teenager. (This would have been during the Irish Potato Famine.) While crossing the ocean, the ship was attacked by pirates, but the passengers and crew managed to fight them off. Charles is said to have killed one of the pirates himself, beheading him with the pirate's own sword. Of course, this could have been a tall tale, but...who knows? I sure would love to find out more information on this part of my family...Who was Charles' father? Where did he come from? Why did he die so young? Are their surviving ancestors of his son Charles? If anyone has any information I would so appreciate it.

Thanks,
Tricia

My G-G-Grandfather was Ronald McDonald and he was born in Canada in 1855. He immigrated to the U.S. in 1891. His father was born in Ireland. The picture is of Grandpa McDonald and two of his grand daughters. Circa-1929 I'd love password access to this site! Thanks in advance.
